Where Angels Stand Watch

While visiting Buenos Aires, Argentina earlier this year, I had the opportunity to spend a day off in Recoleta, a downtown neighborhood in Buenos Aires. This area is considered one of the more affluent neighborhoods in Buenos Aires and it has a great mixture of restaurants, nightlife, cafes and the Church of Nuestra Señora del Pilar and the Recoleta Cemetery. The cemetery is located next to the former monastery of the Recollect Fathers. It is a wonderful display of nineteenth- and twentieth-century funerary art and architecture, with private family crypts of the bourgeoisie and mausolea of the landowning classes. The mortal remains of many figures in Argentine history can be found here, the most famous of which is the tomb of Eva Perón the First Lady of Argentina from 1946 until 1952. I found the many angels perched on top of the mausolea of Recoleta a fascinating topic to photograph.
